Marty James: "The Pacific Union College men’s basketball team is off to a 1-1 start in the California Pacific Conference after beating Embry Riddle (Prescott, Arizona) on Friday, 88-75, and losing to Benedictine University-Mesa (Mesa, Ariz.) on Saturday, 85-77. Both games were at Pacific Auditorium in Angwin.
Five players, led by Ben Jazuk with 19 points and six rebounds, scored in double figures in the conference opener.
Rae Hubbard scored 18 points, Jayson Marquez had 17 points, five rebounds and five assists, Brandon Franklin scored 11 points, and Devon Pinnock had 10 points and five assists.
Jazuk scored 19 points and had four rebounds in the game against Benedictine.
Also contributing for the Pioneers (5-2 overall, 1-1 CalPac) were Pinnock (14 points, five assists, three rebounds), Noel Briones (13 points), Franklin (nine points, four rebounds, three steals), Kwuan Guerrero (seven points, 11 rebounds), Hubbard (six points), and Marquez (six points)."
Jazuk is out of Napa Valley College and Benicia High.
