Looking at Las Positas College

Las Positas College possesses an intriguing blend of size, skill and athleticism this season and owns a 13-2 overall record.

The tall are 7-foot sophomore Donald (Center High/Cosumnes River College) Mims, 6-foot-10 Anand (Manteca High) Hundal and 6-foot-8 second-year talent Stokely (Amador Valley High/USF) Chaffee. Mims is offering 7.3 rebounds and 4.2 blocked shots an outing, the freshman Hundal is still getting his college basketball feet under him while Chaffee is big time with 13.7 points plus 10.1 rebounds nightly.

6-foot-3 sophomore guard Keith (Oakland High) Hunter leads the Hawks in scoring at 13.7 points, followed by Chaffee. Caleb (Washington High) Baskett, a second-year 6-foot-2 backcourter, is averaging 12.1 points and fellow 6-foot-2 soph Kameron (Granda High) Johnson stands at 10.9.

The three most startling comparative statistics for LPC are:

* shooting 50.1% while holding opponents to 38.4%

* averaging 24.7 free throw attempts to 15.9

* out-rebounding the opposition 47.6 to 25.7

The one Achilles heel if it can be called that is 15.2 turnovers committed to 8.1.

This is a well-balanced squad.
