Tuesday: Vanden 63, Kennedy 47

Daily Republic: "Phoenix Shackelford not only continued his double-digit scoring trend for the Vanden High boys basketball team with 14 points, but added nine assists as the Vikings took down Kennedy of Sacramento 63-47 at Jim Boyd Gym, Tuesday.

Following Shackelford in scoring was Aaron Porcil with 13 points, followed by Teiano Hardee with 10 points.

The Vikings (4-0) opened the game with a 20-3 lead, going to halftime up 34-20. Vanden’s coach, Micheal Holloway, said the team came out with a lot of energy due to it being the home season-opener.

Of his point guard, Shackelford, Holloway said he likes it when his guard does more than just score the ball.

“He shares the ball really well,” Holloway said. “Although he’s capable of scoring a ton, it’s not his focus. When you’re best player is willing to pass first, it bleeds throughout the team.”
