Ashley's offensive efficiency

Coach Sean Miller on Brandon Ashley's play last night:

"In his first game home in the Bay area since he injured his foot last season at Cal, Brandon Ashley was a ruthlessly efficient offensive player.

It's just that he didn't get to play much.

In just 16 foul-plagued minutes during UA’s 89-82 win over Stanford, Ashley scored 17 points on 5-for-7 shooting and went 6-for-8 from the free-throw line.

He scored UA’s first six points, through the 17:14 mark of the first half, then committed two fouls within the next minute.

“Brandon Ashley was playing really well,” UA coach Sean Miller said. “If he had had more minutes tonight, he could have had one of his best nights ever.”

UA did not make Ashley available for comment to media after Thursday’s game, but Miller said he trusted Ashley enough to put him back in the first half after picking up those first two fouls.

Miller waited until the 8:36 mark to put Ashley back in and, just 13 seconds later, Ashley had foul No. 3.

“I put him back in with two and it backfired,” Miller said. “When a guy gets his third before halftime, that really can change things. But Brandon offensively was terrific tonight.”
