The Fresno City men’s basketball team captured the Allan Hancock Holiday Classic championship Tuesday as the Rams bench scored almost half of the points, including a team-high 13 points from reserve DeJon Burdeaux, in a 82-63 victory against Rio Hondo.
The Rams, ranked No. 3 in the state, got 37 points from eight reserves and pulled away from No. 13 Rio Hondo with a 38-20 advantage in the second half.
Burdeaux was named tournament MVP, finishing the three-day event with 31 points, 15 rebounds, eight steals and six assists. In the final, He shot 6 of 10 and had five rebounds, two steals and an assist.
Fellow reserve Josh Sykes added 10 points, and Rams starters Nick Hilton and James O’Neal had 12 and 10 points, respectively.
The Rams also rediscovered their outside touch, making 9 of 21 3-pointers a day after making only 1 of 12 behind the arc in the semifinal. Fresno City also shot 13 of 14 from the free-throw line.
