Just askin'

So Utah is checking out St. Mary's Coach Randy Bennett (who has to be assessing just what he has to do with his Gael program  in order to garner Big Dance invitee respect).

If Bennett does head to Utah (and becomes a PAC-12 head coach), will Kyle Smith, now at Columbia, consider or be considered for the opening? Smith is from New York state but his coaching tenure appears to mostly or all be western or west coast connected.

  1. If Bennett leaves St. Mary's, do you think Frank Allocco from De La Salle would be considered for the job?

  2. I just can't see it. It's an enormous leap from HS to D-1, even with Coach Allocco's background, plus the DLS style -- other than hard work and physical play -- doesn't translate to college basketball. Additionally, there would be plenty of very qualified candidates vying for any St. Mary's opening including other college head coaches and assistants. It would certainly be a grand experiment but St. Mary's is at the level where experimentation isn't necessary.
