From Indian Hills Basketball:
To no one's surprise, a matchup of two ranked teams battling for sole possession of first place in the conference came down to the final seconds. Sophomore Gary Williams, Jr. hit four straight free throws in the final 23.2 seconds to allow Indian Hills to defeat rival Southeastern, 82-78, and claim the top spot in the league with a 3-0 record.
After SCC's Steven Soukup swished a 3-pointer with 34.8 seconds to play to cut what was a six-point deficit to one at 78-77, Indian Hills got the ball in the hands of their best free throw shooter and Williams didn't disappoint the ninth-ranked Warriors. He calmly dropped in both ends of a one-and-one with just over 23 seconds remaining to push the lead to three. Isiah Graves, the SCC point guard, was fouled with 16.5 seconds on the clock and made one of his two free throws to leave the score at 80-78.
IHCC inbounded the ball to Williams after Graves was good on his second attempts and, again, the sophomore drained both foul shots for the final margin. SCC missed two 3-pointers on their final possession and the Warriors cemented their 19th win against only two defeats.
Williams has now made 24 consecutive free throws and has missed only once in his last 42 tries, dating back to December. He is shooting .924 for the season.
The Warriors used the one-two punch of Williams and Jordan Washington in the second half. Williams scored 13 of his team-high 18 points in the final half and Washington, who was scoreless at halftime, powered his way to 15 second-half points...
