Williams powers Indian Hills to title

Gary Williams Jr. was in an alternate basketball universe last night, scoring 30 points (2-2 on treys, 10-10 at the foul line), grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out eight assists as Indian Hills College bested North Dakota State College of Science 90-87 for the District XI championship. It's now on to Hutchinson, Kansas for the national tournament.

The game report article begins:

"The only time he'd ever scored 30 points, Gary Williams, Jr. did so in IHCC's only home loss.

This 30-point effort, however, will be a much more memorable one for the Indian Hills sophomore. Especially the last three.

With the District XI title and a national tournament berth literally hanging in the balance as time wound down, Williams. Jr. matched his IHCC career high by draining a tie-breaking 3-pointer with five seconds left in regulation. That basket, and a miss at the buzzer by North Dakota State College of Science sophomore Johnny Woodard, clinched a 90-87 Region XI title for the 13th-ranked Warriors and a return trip to the NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball National Tournament.

It was an incredible overall effort for Williams, Jr. The Warrior sophomore kept himself alive to hit the Hutch-clinching shot by avoiding his fifth foul over the course of the final 11 minutes of regulation..."

Hey, wouldn't he look good playing in the blue and gold for Cuonzo Martin?
