Steve Connolly reports: "Cal State East Bay head men's basketball coach Gus Argenal has announced that College of Marin guard Pierre Carter has committed to join the Pioneers for the 2015-16 season.
Carter was named Player of the Year for the Bay Valley Conference in 2014-15 after leading the team to a 26-4 record and a league championship. He was a First Team All-State honoree, averaging 14.5 points and 4.8 rebounds per game while shooting 49.5 percent form the field, 38 percent from long range, and 81 percent from the free throw line.
"Pierre had a special career at College of Marin under head coach Dave Granucci and as a prep star at Heritage High School," said Argenal. "He helped the Marin program become a Northern California power, and we see him helping us in the same way. He is an aggressive defender, a willing passer, and a dynamic scorer in the full court and half court."
The 6'4" Carter led Marin to an impressive run through the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Championships this past year, scoring a season-high 34 points in a quarterfinal victory over Consumes River College. For the season he scored in double figures in 21 of 29 games, topping 20 points six times.
As a freshman in 2013-14, Carter was Marin's leading scorer at 14.5 points per game to go along with 4.7 rebounds, and he captured First Team All-Conference honors.
A native of Brentwood, he was a prep standout at Heritage High School and graduated in 2013. As a senior, Carter led the squad to a 21-7 record in the competitive Bay Valley League.
"Pierre is a complete player with great skill and athleticism," Argenal added. "He is going to bring another dimension of play to our team, and I can't wait to get him in an East Bay uniform."
