The Gators on Bynum

SF State Sports Information: SF State head men's basketball coach Paul Trevor has announced the signing of First Team All-State transfer Brantley Bynum to a National Letter of Intent. Bynum is an athletic 6'6 forward from Visalia, Calif, where he graduated from El Diamante High School in 2012. The past two seasons, Bynum was a standout at his hometown school the College of the Sequoias.

"Brantley is one the most explosive athletes we have ever had here at SF State," said SF State head coach Paul Trevor. "He plays above the rim and will have some highlight reel dunks. I'm most excited about how well he moves his feet defensively."

This past season, Bynum lead his College of the Sequoias team to the second round of the California State Junior College Tournament this past Spring. The Giants finished the season with a 17-13 overall record.

Bynum averaged 16.4 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game this past season while shooting 59.1% from the field and 81.7% from the charity stripe. Both his field goal and free throw percentages ranked in the top ten in the state. For his efforts, he was named to the All-Central Valley Conference First Team for the second time in two years.

"Offensively, his balanced inside-outside game will make him a tough match-up for CCAA opponents," added Trevor. "On top of all of that, he is a well-rounded young man who will represent us well in the classroom and in the community. If he puts in the extra work that is needed to succeed at this level, he will be a special player."

Bynum averaged 14.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.4 steals in his senior season at El Diamonte High School.
