More WCC information

Jon Rothstein with some West Coast Conference notes:

* Who steps forward for Saint Mary's?

Calvin Hermanson is almost certain to get a major piece of the pie after logging only 8.3 minutes per game last season, but Randy Bennett is also counting heavily on a pair of transfers -- Joe Rahon (Boston College) and Joe Coleman (Minnesota). Rahon got extensive experience in the ACC during the first two years of his college career on the East Coast and is the type of heady guard Bennett loves to coach. Coleman, meanwhile, was a starter on a St. Mary's team that advanced to the Round of 32 in 2013 and, at 6-4, can play multiple positions. These two players along with Hermanson and sophomore guard Emmett Naar are likely to comprise the Gaels' core in 2015-16.

* Saint Mary's coach Randy Bennett told CBSSports.com that he 6-11 sophomore Jock Landale will likely step in for Brad Waldow as the Gaels' starting center during the upcoming season. The Australian native averaged only 5.0 minutes a year ago, but should be be better served to contribute during his second season in Moraga.

and

* Santa Clara's Jared Brownridge might be the best 3-point shooter that most people nationally aren't aware of. The 6-2 guard has made a combined 188 3-point shots over the past two years and shot an average of 43.5 percent from long distance during that span. This kid is a gamer.

and

* The best assistant coaching hire that nobody's talking about nationally? Rex Walters' power move to bring legendary De La Salle (Calif.) coach Frank Allocco to San Francisco as associate head coach. Allocco spent the past 24 years in the high school ranks, compiling an otherworldly 654-99 record to go along with three state championships. He also coached the West team in 2014 at the McDonald's All-American game in Chicago.
