John McCarthy/Virgin Island Free Press features James Kelbert of Leland High who was a member of the Virgin Islands’ under-17 boys basketball team in the recent Centrobasket Tournament held in Puerto Rico.
A little known fact: the 6-foot-2 Kelbert is also a heralded swimmer for Leland, a sport that Virgin Islander Tim Duncan also participated in before turning to basketball because a hurricane destroyed the sole Olympic-sized pool in the Virgin Islands.
