Two Bay Area-ites named co-players of the week


"CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Michael Smith (CBU)
G – Sr. – South San Francisco, Calif./El Camino

Smith led No. 5 California Baptist to three wins to improve to 6-0 on the season. He averaged 31.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. He shot 51.9 percent from the floor, made eight three-pointers and shot 33-for-35 at the free throw line. He scored a career-high 42 points against No. 22 UC San Diego, shooting 11-19 from the field with four three-pointers and 16-of-17 from the free throw line. The scoring output was four points off the CBU record and the most a Lancer has scored since 2004. He averaged 26.5 points per game in the CBU Thanksgiving Classic and had a career-high eight assists against Arkansas-Fort Smith. Smith leads the PacWest and is top-10 in the nation in scoring, averaging 26.8 points per game.

CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Rohndell Goodwin (Chaminade)
G – Sr. – Oakland, Calif./Merrill West

Goodwin was named to the Maui Jim Maui Invitational All-Tournament Team, the first Silversword to achieve the honor since 2012. He averaged 20.0 points per game in three contests against Division I opponents, the third-highest of the tournament behind MVP Joel Berry (North Carolina) and Jawun Evans (Oklahoma State). He also averaged 5.7 rebounds per game. He increased his scoring each game, scoring 18 against North Carolina, 20 against UConn and 22 against Tennessee. Goodwin is third in the PacWest in scoring (21.6 ppg) and 13th in rebounding (6.2 rpg)."
