Frayer loving GCU

"Defense, freshmen bail out GCU in win over San Diego State" -- Richard Obert

An excerpt: "Freshmen Fiifi Aidoo and Oscar Frayer are no longer freaked out by the zealous Havocs at Grand Canyon University Arena.

Now they're feeding off the jet stream generated by what may be the loudest student section in college basketball.

With Frayer and Aidoo combining for eight 3-pointers, most of those coming at times when it appeared victory was slipping away, Grand Canyon held off San Diego State for a 76-72 win Wednesday night before 7,171 fans.

Both Frayer and Aidoo had season highs in scoring and 3-pointers. Frayer made five of seven 3s and finished with 19 points.

Aidoo made three of five 3s and had 15 points. Aidoo's steal from San Diego State leading scorer Jeremy Hemsley and layup as time expired ended any last threat by the Aztecs.

Frayer didn't take any more recruiting visits after watching the Havocs storm the floor in GCU's win over New Mexico State last year. But it took both him and Aidoo a few home games this season to not be intimidated by their own crowd.

"This crowd is amazing," Frayer said. "At first, I was nervous and didn't know what to expect..."
