Matt Hayes at Cal State Dominguez Hills

"...Coach Steve Becker is set to welcome current CSUDH graduate student in Matt Hayes to the court in January...

Entering his final semester of eligibility in January as a graduate student after competing at Division I Loyola Marymount, the 6-1 Hayes will bring a history of winning to the Toros. He averaged 4.2 points per game for the Lions as a sophomore during the 2014-15 season, hitting 40.5 percent from behind the arc to lead the team and setting a career high with 20 points against Santa Clara after sinking 6-of-13 from downtown. Prior to LMU, Hayes led Santa Rosa JC to the CCCAA State Championship, the first in the school's history. He also earned first-team all-state and first-team all-league honors after scoring 16.2 points per game. Before his year at SRJC, Hayes led Pleasant Grove HS to the CIF Division I State Championship in 2013, pouring in 19 points with four boards, two assists and a steal in the title game. During the regional and state playoffs, he averaged 14.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals, earning league and All-CIF accolades.

"We are very excited to add Matt to our program as a graduate transfer," begins Becker. "Matt brings a winning pedigree and the ability to shoot the basketball at an elite level. He was a key component on teams that won state championships at both the high school and junior college levels, and we expect Matt to be an impact player right away as he works toward completing his MPA."
