Wouldn't Tre'Shon Smoots
be much more of a well known basketball prospect if he was residing in
the Bay Area? It's an unprovable theory since time can't be stopped nor
geographical adjustments performed but the argument here is yes.
The
2018 guard out of Grant High certainly certainly has his Sac Town
backers. Don Manning-Fuimaono is one and he offered this analysis:
"Offensively, he's the best guard in Sacramento. He has an advanced
handle and can get wherever he wants to on the floor. He’s an above
average shooter with deep range. He’s also a very skilled passer. A
tough kid who loves to play and compete. He can take over games."
Fans in the Bay Area will likely climb aboard the more the 6-foot-1 Smoots is seen there alongside his Splash City teammates.
One
thing definite is that Smoots understands he is a point and it's
evident in his hoops creed. The first element he brought up when asked
to name his best skills was "getting others better. I prefer a bunch of
players score than me. I want guys to want to play with me." He also
offered "getting my own shot" as another element in his repertoire. Smoots possesses a
deft hesitation move that works well with his dribble-drives to the
hoop as opponents think he has been denied but then he fires up again and rockets by them.
He
believes his basketball IQ is on the high side providing a very solid grasp of the
game. Talking about efficiency, he explained, "At the point guard position, you need to run your
team in a high performance manner. There's playing and knowing it but doing it is the hardest
part."
One
area he has worked to improve on this summer is leadership. "My Dad
stressed that I needed to be more verbal with my team." He also time in the weight room "getting stronger and more athletic."
Smoots sports a 3.3 grade point average and is on target academically according to feedback he has received from coaches.
