Marcus Beaird turning it around

Today is a big day for Marcus Beaird.

The freshman forward on the Delta College men's basketball team out of Bear Creek High takes his General Education Development test at 11 a.m. and also will play this evening for the Mustangs in their Big 8 Conference home opener against No. 8 Diablo Valley College at 8 p.m. at Joe Blanchard Gymnasium. The Delta women host the DVC women at 6 p.m.

Beaird came out of Bear Creek in 2009 without a diploma or GED. Down on himself, he decided to forego work and school last year...

Diablo Valley College 56, Santa Rosa CC 54

Sophomore Lorenzo McCloud scored 29 points for SRCC, with nobody else in double figures, but it wasn't enough.

Delta 73, Sierra 63

James (Fairfield High) Lake totaled 18 as did Marcus Beaird with Delta taking down Sierra.
