JC scores from Thursday night

* Yuba College 90 - Los Medanos College 79

From the Appeal Democrat:
Winning Bay Valley Conference games has been a pretty common feat over the last 13 seasons for the Yuba College men's basketball team.

Thursday night's victory was a little more special.

The 49ers beat Los Medanos 90-78 in Pittsburg to deliver coach Doug Cornelius his 300th career coaching victory.

"When I first got the job, I wasn't sure I would hit the 300 mark," said Cornelius, who gave a lot of credit to associate head coach Ken Griffin for the team's success over the years. "It's quite the accomplishment. We've had great kids and great talent. It's been a lot of fun."

Leading the way for Yuba on Thursday was freshman guard Barry Ogalue, who recorded 23 points and eight rebounds in just his second start of the season.

Chris Smith scored 18 points in the second half to finish with 20 points and seven rebounds, while Floyd Wormley filled out the stat sheet once again with 10 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

* College of the Redwoods 105 - College of the Siskiyous 99

From the College of the Redwoods athletics Facebook page:
College of the Redwoods freshman Aaron Cloud hit five 3-pointers and sophomore James Slade scored 21 points — in the second half — and the men’s basketball team erased a 12-point second-half deficit to win 105-99 in a Golden Valley Conference game at Siskiyous on Thursday.

With the win, the Corsairs stay perfect in the GVC at 2-0, just one game behind Butte (3-0), who they play on Saturday at 2 p.m.

“Cloud had a helluva game,” said CR head coach Justin Mora. “And so did Slade. It was a total team effort tonight, but when we needed a basket the most it seemed like it was one of those guys who came through.”

Cloud had a season-high six 3s in the game, finishing with a season-high 21 points, and Slade finished with a game-high 28.

Flying in under the radar were sophomores Jon Losa, who picked up a double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds, and Mitchell Hash, who finished with 16 points.

Trailing by a point, 43-42, at halftime, the Corsairs fell into a double-digit hole midway through the second half and found themselves trailing by 12 with about 11 minutes to go.
After a timeout to regroup, the Corsairs caught fire and, in a stretch of just over six minutes, turned that 12-point deficit into a 10-point lead.

“It was an incredible run,” Mora said. “Cloud hit some huge 3s and he was also great on the defensive end. Our guys really did a great job tonight executing.”

Now the Corsairs turn their attention toward first-place Butte.

“It’s going to be a big game,” Mora said. “They’re 3-0, we’re 2-0 so it’s for first place. There are only 10 league game so they’re all important but this is a big one for sure.”
