Defensive effort carrying San Diego State

Ken Cross writes about San Diego State's defensive prowess and Xavier Thames is credited:
...This team continues to play lockdown defense that has held its opponents to 56.1 points per game on just 36.2 percent shooting. One major difference between this and the 2010-11 team is that this team uses full court pressure more regularly and it is becoming a major problem for opponents.

With the athleticism of Xavier Thames and a taller-post-oriented group of players between 6-7 and Skylar Spencer at 6-10, it’s a scary lineup. The ability of these players to affect the game defensively with their length and athleticism is a key cog in SDSU leaving opponents in the dust in causing such matchup problems.

“It’s been a point of emphasis,” Fisher commented, “We feel as if we can play 10-11 guys, and that wears you. I was concerned, but no longer concerned. Xavier Thames gets the brunt of it because he’s on the point guard most of the time. But he has that uncanny ability to stay with it and have good endurance, and he’s able to do it better than most could...”
