Berry signs to play in Italy

Former Weber State men’s basketball standout and Big Sky MVP Davion Berry has signed a contract to play professional basketball in Italy. Berry has signed with PMS Torino in the A2 Gold Basket Series League, a professional league in Italy. He competed in the 2014 NBA Summer League with the Portland Trail Blazers.

Berry, a 6-foot-4 guard out of Oakland, Calif, led Weber State to the Big Sky title, a Big Sky Tournament title and a trip to the NCAA Tournament during the past season. He was named honorable mention All-American, named Big Sky MVP and was also named to the Big Sky All-Conference First Team and earned All-District honors for the second straight season.

He was WSU’s top player all season, leading the Wildcats in scoring 21 times during the season, including 17 of the last 19 games. He finished the season third in the Big Sky in scoring at 19.2 points per game and was second in scoring in Big Sky games at 20.2 per game. He scored in double figures in 29 of WSU’s 31 games and scored 20 or more 19 times, including 24 against Arizona in the NCAA Tournament. He scored 596 points this season, the 12th most in a season in WSU history.

Berry also led the Wildcats in assists, steals and free throw percentage. He finished the season fifth in the league in assists and seventh in free throw percentage.

After his two-year career with the Wildcats, Berry ranks 15th in WSU history in career scoring with 1,160 career points. He also ranks fifth in career 3-point field goal percentage and 10th in career 3-pointers. He is sixth in career free throws made, 10th in career free throw percentage and eighth in career assists average.
