* College of Marin 83 - Yuba College 73

The MIJ:

"The state-playoff bound College of Marin men’s basketball team finished off the regular season with an 83-73 victory on Friday over Yuba.

Stan Kaya had 20 points, Pierre Carter scored 19 and Luke Chavez finished with 10 for the Mariners (24-3, 15-1 Bay Valley Conference), who are hoping for a No. 1 seed in the North bracket and expect to host a first-round game next Saturday.

“The guys were ready and focused to finish off the year the right way,” COM coach David Granucci said. “This felt like more of a league championship than on Wednesday. We won and found out later that Yuba lost and didn’t really get to celebrate as a team.”

Against Yuba, Brandon Kenilvort proved to be a big spark defensively and Milton Jackson was a key off the bench as both finished with eight points apiece.

Now the Mariners are gearing up for a rare postseason appearance.

“It’s a reflection of all the work we’ve put in,” Granucci said. “It’s definitely enjoyable (to win the conference title). Our guys kept saying, ‘We’re not done’. It’s one-and-done from here out, but we are going to put our best foot forward."

Kirk Barron also game reports.

Cañada College 91 - Foothill College 84 box

For CC: Frosh guard Brian (St. Francis High) Garrett busted out for 26 points (6-10 from long range), fellow backcourter Kenny (St. Ignatius High) Hatch did likewise with 19 and Rohndell (West High) Goodwin contributed 16.

* Cabrillo College 69 - DeAnza College 59

Cabrillo College Men's Basketball:

"In the last regular season home game of the season Cabrillo hosted DeAnza College who came into the game in a three-way tie for third place in the conference with Cabrillo and Monterey Peninsula. After 40 minutes of action Cabrillo disposed of DeAnza to the tune of a 69-59 victory.

Aron West got things going early for the Seahawks with 2 big dunks off beautiful lobs from Allen Wilcher that set the tone for how Cabrillo would play throughout the night. The Seahawks were the aggressors attacking the rim relentlessly. West, Wilcher and Zavon Jackson would combine for 26 of Cabrillo's 33 first half points helping to take a 33-29 lead into the break.

The second half saw a lot more of Wilcher and Jackson with Latrell Wilson coming to life as well, Cabrillo would take full control of the game in the early goings building a double digit lead that they would hold onto till the final horn sounded. Wilcher would lead all scorers with 21, Jackson finished with 19 and Wilson chipped in 14 for Cabrillo. Cabrillo's streak of four consecutive years as Coast Conference Champs would come to an end but the season ended on a positive note with back to back home wins to send the sophomore class off properly. Cabrillo finishes with a 15-12 record, 7-5 in Coast Conference South play."

* San Francisco City College 79 - Las Positas College 69 box

SFCC wins the Coast North championship.

For SFCC: Vincent (Skyline High) Golson was big again with 22 points, Julian Harrell tallied 13 and Troy (Oakland Tech) Thompson was in front via nine boards.

From LPC Men's Basketball:

"The Hawks' playoff hopes took a hit Friday night with a 79-69 road loss to City College of San Francisco in the final game of the regular season.

LPC's postseason fate will be determined Monday as it hopes that a 16-12 overall record and a 5-7 finish in the Coast Conference North Division is good enough for a bid to next week's Northern California playoffs.

The Hawks trailed only 31-30 at halftime, but couldn't overcome a CCSF team that clinched the conference championship with an 9-3 record. The Rams (20-8 overall) entered ranked #10 in the state and #5 in Northern California.

LPC finished tied for fourth place in the conference with Skyline and Foothill. Chabot finished second at 8-4, and Cañada was third at 7-5. Chabot and Cañada are virtual locks to earn postseason berths.

Should a bid come down to do either LPC, Skyline or Foothill, the Hawks have a slim advantage in RPI over Skyline (.547 to .546), and LPC has defeated the Trojans in all three meetings this season. However, Skyline (17-9) has a better overall record.

LPC has a better overall record than Foothill (12-16) and a higher RPI (.547 to .527). Although Foothill is 2-0 against the Hawks this season, its overall losing record will most likely be a hindrance."

Ohlone took a lead into halftime 46-45 but Chabot would surge early in the second half and never looked back. Another balanced offensive effort tonight as five players reached double figures: DeCarlos Frank 22,
Ray Baldwin 21, Shanquel Watson 16, Austin Medeiros 14 (4 threes), Kellen Sweetwyne 13."
