* Las Positas College 81 - Chabot College 66

From LPC Men's Basketball:

"LPC recorded its biggest win of the Coast Conference North Division season Friday night -- and perhaps its biggest win of the year -- by beating Chabot 81-66 in Livermore.

The Hawks (13-11, 2-6) and Gladiators (14-11, 5-3) entered the game going in different directions. LPC entered in last place in the conference and losers of 7 of its past 8 games. Chabot, meanwhile, was tied for first place, had won 5 of its previous 6 games, and moved up the rankings to #16 in the state and #9 in Northern California.

What's more, LPC was coming of a gut-wrenching, buzzer-beating loss to Foothill two nights earlier and was down to 9 players because of injuries and team defections.

None of that seemed to matter, though, as the Hawks built a 12-point lead in the first half and entered halftime with a 40-33 advantage. LPC then opened the second half with an 11-2 run after three-pointers by McKayle Harnell, Nick Merrill, and Marti Fonolla, and a follow shot by Merrill to build a 51-33 lead.

Chabot pulled within 59-46 before the Hawks scored 6 straight points on a free throw by Cameron Moses, another three by Merrill, and a turnaround jumper by Rashad Brackeen, making the score 65-46 midway through the second half.

LPC's lead grew to 22 points at 77-55 after Donovan Grant put in a layup off a nifty pass from Moses with 5:10 remaining.

Harnell led the Hawks with 18 points, while Fonolla added 15, and Brackeen and Grant contributed 11 each."

* Monterey Peninsula College 67 - West Valley College 62 box

From MPC Men's Basketball: "Tough hard nosed win vs West Valley 67-62. Devin Koeplin had 23 pts. Isaac Clark also had 22 points."

Koeplin's points came on 6-10 overall shooting, 5-7 from beyond the arc and 6-7 at the free throw line. Clark shot 9-15 overall.

San Joaquin Delta College 56 - Modesto Junior College 49 box

The Modesto Bee:

"It looked promising for 20 minutes for the Modesto Junior College men’s basketball team.

Then came the second half.

A chance for a Big 8 Conference victory faded Friday night when the Pirates managed only 13 points in the second half. The result was a 56-40 loss to San Joaquin Delta at MJC Gym.

Modesto (5-17, 2-8) dropped its sixth game in a row, though it teased its fans with a 27-20 lead at halftime.

The Mustangs (16-7, 6-4), one of several teams chasing Big 8 leader Cosumnes River, scored the first eight points of the second half and pulled away.

Troy Anderson, a 6-foot-5 sophomore, led Delta with 15 points (plus 10 boards, five steals and four blocked shots). Jordan Belasco followed with 11 points (plus eight assists) and Treyvon Merriweather had 11. Sophomore guard Blake Terry topped the Pirates with 11 points."
