* College of Marin 90 - College of Alameda 71

The Marin Independent Journal:

"Pierre Carter scored a team-high 23 points to pace the College of Marin men’s basketball team to its ninth victory in a row, 90-71 against Alameda on Friday.

Former Drake High standout Brandon Kenilvort scored 17 points, Stan Kaya added 15 and George Johnson scored 14 for the Mariners (22-3, 13-1 Bay Valley conference).

The victory, combined with Yuba’s loss on Friday night, puts the Mariners alone in first place with two games to play.

The team plays its final home game of the regular season at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday -- sophomore night -- against Mendocino. The team closes the regular season with what could amount to a game for the conference title at Yuba on Friday night.

Against Alameda, COM led by five at the half before pulling away in the second half.

“We made slight adjustments,” COM coach Dave Granucci said. “Our guys executed them and we were better offensively as well as far as being more patient. ... Pierre Carter has been really big for us the past two months.”

* Las Positas College 77 - Skyline College 74

LPC Men's Basketball:

"LPC continued its late-season surge Friday night by defeating visiting Skyline 77-74 on Rashad Brackeen's three-pointer with less than a second remaining.

The victory was the Hawks' third straight and improved their overall record to 15-11, ensuring their first winning season since going 22-8 in 2011-12. More importantly, perhaps, LPC kept its playoff hopes alive while moving out of the cellar in the Coast Conference North Division. The Hawks' conference record stands at 4-6, good for fifth place, one game behind Foothill for fourth.

LPC has two regular-season games left, Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. against Ohlone in Livermore and two nights later at City College of San Francisco. The Hawks might have to win both in order to be selected to play in the Northern California playoffs.

The victory over Skyline is particularly important because the Trojans (16-9, 4-7) are also in the playoff hunt. LPC has now beaten Skyline in all three of the teams' meetings this season.

Victory number 3 over the Trojans was not ensured until Brackeen buried his game-winner with .9 seconds left. Skyline tied the game at 74-74 with 9.1 seconds remaining, and with no timeouts remaining, LPC quickly got the ball into the front court and into the hands of Marti Fanolla.

Fanolla drove from the left side and found Brackeen open in the right corner behind the three-point line, and the backup guard hit nothing but net, forcing Skyline to call timeout. After the timeout, Skyline's desperation half-court heave at the buzzer fell harmlessly short.

The Trojans led 43-39 at halftime and 56-50 five minutes into the second half before the Hawks went on an 11-2 run to go ahead 61-58 midway through the half. Skyline quickly regained the lead before LPC caught the Trojans again 67-67 with 5 minutes left on a baseline drive by Brackeen.

After two Skyline free throws, Cameron Moses hit a jumper, Donovan Grant hit his third three-pointer of the game, and Fanolla made 2 free throws for a 74-69 LPC advantage with 48.6 seconds left. The Trojans made 3 free throws and the basket with 9.1 left, setting up Brackeen's heroics.

Brackeen finished with 18 points, while Nick Merrill and McKayle Harnell, who scored all of his points in the first half, added 12 each."

West Valley College 64 - Cabrillo College 63

Cabrillo College Basketball: "The Cabrillo College Seahawks lost a tough one tonight in Saratoga to West Vallley College 64-63. The loss drops the Seahawks to 5-5 in conference play and 13-12 overall. Allen Wilcher lead all scorers with 25 points. Latrell Wilson had 19 and Zavon Jackson chipped in with 15."

* City College of San Francisco 91 - Ohlone College 84
