Nor Cal JC scores from Thursday

Below are scores from Thursday's games involving northern California teams:

* College of the Redwoods 63 - Shasta College 60

College of the Redwoods athletics:

Sophomore Bryce Rose led College of the Redwoods men’s basketball team with a 15-point, 13-rebound double-double and the Corsairs narrowly topped Shasta 63-60 on Thursday in their Golden Valley Conference and season finale in Redding.

“We didn’t play very good, but we found a way to pull through. The guys were resilient,” said CR head coach Justin Mora, whose Corsairs started GVC play in an 0-3 hole, but rallied to win five of their final seven conference games to finish 5-5 in league (11-14 overall) and in third place. “And it was a really great game for Bryce. He was a rebounding machine and just had a great game.”

CR’s Johnny Shelton was the only other Corsair to score in double figures, finishing with 11 points, while Justin Claus had two 3-pointers and scored eight.

“(Shasta) played zone and we just didn’t shoot the ball very well,” Mora said. “We missed a lot of open shots, but the guys stuck with it and found a way and it was just a great way to end the season.”

Scoring (CR) Rose 15, Shelton 11, Claus 8

* Feather River College 83 - Butte College 77

The ChicoER:

"For the first time in two years, the Butte College men’s basketball team lost a Golden Valley Conference matchup.

The Roadrunners fell to Feather River 83-77 Thursday night in Quincy. Butte’s last GVC loss came Feb. 21, 2013, when Shasta came away with a 66-42 win.

Arthur Caldwell scored 20 points to lead Butte, which had already secured the outright conference title. Jud Sailsbery added 15 points on five 3-pointers, while Matt McGregor scored 12 points. Dominic Parisi had 11 points and Nikolas Petruk had 10 for Butte (18-8, 9-1 GVC).

Butte fell behind 15-2 to start the game but rallied back to trim the margin to 38-31 by halftime. The Roadrunners pulled ahead in the second half at 47-46, and the two teams were deadlocked at 76 near the end of the game. The Golden Eagles finished the game with a 7-1 run.

The Roadrunners are still the outright GVC champion after clinching the conference with Saturday’s win over College of the Siskiyous. They now wait for the playoff site to be determined."
