One Nor Cal JC game score to report

Below is the score of the sole contest involving northern California JC team last night:

* College of the Redwoods 87 - Siskiyous College 78

College of the Redwoods athletics:

College of the Redwoods freshmen Justin Claus and Melvin Washington combined for 48 points on Thursday and the men’s basketball team overcame a slow start, beating Siskiyous 87-78 in Weed for its fourth consecutive Golden Valley Conference win.

Claus hit seven 3-pointers in the game (one shy of his season-high eight) on 13 attempts, while Washington took over the second half, scoring 19 of his season-high 23 points after the break.

“He’s really stepped in to the starting lineup and done a great job for us,” said CR head coach Justin Mora of Washington, who started his fifth straight game Thursday and is averaging 18 points per game his last three starts. “He just took over the second half.”

Redwoods trailed 36-31 at halftime following a sluggish first half, but the Corsairs stayed close thanks to the hot hand of Claus and the efforts of Rishod Abraham, who also finished in double figures with 11 points.

“We were terrible in the first half,” Mora said. “We only had 11 field goals in the first half. But Justin and Abraham kept us in it and then we just came out with more energy than they did in the second.”

CR outscored Siskiyous 56-42 in the second half — the Corsairs’ highest scoring half of the season — and with win, improve to 4-3 in the GVC (10-12 overall)...
