* Fresno City College 89 - Reedley College 71

FCC wins the Central Valley Conference.

The Fresno Bee:

"Make it 14 straight outright Central Valley Conference men’s basketball titles for Fresno City College — and 17 consecutive wins this season.

Ryan Swain and Anthony Ballestero each scored 15 points apiece as the state top-ranked Rams defeated visiting Reedley 89-71 on Saturday night.

The 14 consecutive conference titles ties the Rams with Skyline and L.A. City College for the most in state JC history. “I thought we played well in spurts,” Rams coach Ed Madec said. ”We did a lot of good things.”

One of those good things was Fresno City’s 3-point shooting. The Rams (26-3, 10-0) made 11 from beyond-the-arc, with Ballestero and Evan Stillahn finishing with three each. Fresno City started the game 3 for 3 from 3-point range while building an 11-3 lead. With 5:23 remaining in the first half, Swain drilled a 3-pointer to make it 34-23."

* Lassen College 77 - College of the Redwoods 72

College of the Redwoods athletics:

The Corsairs battled, avenging their previous 40-point defeat, but, in the end, couldn’t overcome the No. 12 ranked team in Northern California, falling 77-72 to Lassen in a Golden Valley Conference men’s basketball game in Eureka on Saturday.

CR freshmen Justin Claus had his third game of the season with seven made 3-pointers (his single-game high is eight), finishing with a game-high 29 points.
Lassen built a double-digit lead midway through the first half, but in the closing minutes Claus caught fire, hitting three consecutive shots behind the arc on a 9-0 run to help tie the score 31-31 at halftime. “Justin’s probably the best shooter in our conference and one of the top shooters in the state,” said CR head coach Justin Mora. “And when he catches on fire like that it’s pretty fun to watch.

CR sophomore Johnny Shelton had 13, while freshman Melvin Washington had his fifth straight game in double figures, scoring 10.

With the loss, the Corsairs fall to 4-5 in the GVC and 10-14 overall and will play their final game of the season at Shasta on Thursday.

“The message is to finish out,” Mora said. “It’s the last game of the season, we’re playing for pride and for sole possession of third place, which is a big deal for this team. We started league 0-3 so to bounce back and finish at 5-5 is big.”
