"Montana Tech men's basketball coach Patrick O'Herron announced the addition of Karl "TJ" Rhodes for the 2015-16 season.
"TJ is another student-athlete that understands what it takes to win," stated O'Herron. "He has won wherever he has been and knows the dedication it takes to achieve success. TJ is highly competitive and will push himself and his teammates to become the best they can be."
Rhodes is a 6-foot guard who comes to the Mining City after spending the past two years at the College of Marin in Kentfield, Calif. During his freshman season, Rhodes averaged nine points and five assists while shooting 40% from the field and 35% from three-point range.
"I chose Montana Tech because it gives me the best opportunity to succeed in life academically and athletically and on my visit I felt a special bond with the players and coaches," said Rhodes. "It felt like we were already family and the community is great and shows lots of love."
The Houston, Texas native played high school ball for the Homeschool Christian Youth Association where he led the Warriors to three state championships and two national championships. During his senior season, Rhodes lead HYCA to a 44-11 record while averaging 15 points, 10 assists and five rebounds per contest. For his efforts, Rhodes took home All-State and All-American honors and was named Athlete of the Year in 2013.
Rhodes, the son of former Major League Baseball outfielder Karl Rhodes Sr. and Sonja Price, plans on pursing a degree in Business and will have three years of eligibility.
Rhodes marks Tech's second addition from the Lone Star State for coach O'Herron and his staff as they signed Cruz (College of Alameda) Ginns Jr. earlier this month."
*** Jalen Coates out of Yuba College has also inked with Montana Tech.
