Richard moves to Cal State East Bay

"Cal State East Bay men's basketball welcomes former Santa Clara team member Jalen Richard to its squad for the 2015-16 campaign. The 6-foot-4 guard played two years with the NCAA Division I Broncos of the West Coast Conference (WCC).

"Jalen brings high level playing experience to our program. I have always admired his great character and tremendous dedication to improvement," praised East Bay Head Coach Gus Argenal.

The San Tan Valley, Ariz. native appeared in 29 games off the Broncos bench in 2014-15. He averaged 1.5 points and 1.5 rebounds in nearly 10 minutes per game. Richard scored a collegiate career-high 15 points in his team debut as a freshman. However it's his defensive skills will be a major asset to the Pioneers.

"Jalen has a top notch work ethic and will make his teammates that much better," Argenal added. "He is going to bring another dimension to our style of play. Jalen is an exceptional scorer and playmaker, and has the athletic ability and mindset to be a special defender."

Richard earned First Team All-State honors twice and was named First Team All-Region three times while playing for Poston Butte High School in Phoenix, Ariz. He averaged 23 points, six rebounds, five assists, and one block per game as a senior. Richard posted a high school career-high 48 point effort in a single game.

"We are thrilled to have Jalen join the Pioneer family. He is our type of guy," Argenal said."
