Saturday: Yuba 93, CoA 50 @ CCSF tourney

Appeal-Democrat: "One day after coming up short in a season-opening 93-83 loss to defending state champion San Francisco, the Yuba College men's basketball team returned to the court on Saturday afternoon and bounced back in a big way.

Led by the trio of Jihad Woods, Erik Scheive and Xavier Francois in the paint, the 49ers stormed out to a big lead in the first half and kept it up in the second en route to an easy 93-50 victory over Alameda on the second day of the City College of San Francisco Tip-Off Tournament.

"We kind of just chipped, chipped, chipped away and kept building the lead the whole game," said Yuba coach Doug Cornelius. "We got to play everyone, and all 15 players on the roster scored, which was nice to see."

The 49ers built a 48-28 lead at the half and put the game away by clamping down on defense and holding Alameda to just six points over the first 13 minutes of the second half.

Woods finished with a team-high 20 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, Scheive also posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards, and Francois had a big day off the bench with 11 points and eight rebounds.

"I think they are as good as any three post players in all of California," Cornelius said.
