Which All-Staters are going D1?

Not that playing D1 ball is the must-achieve-or-nothing goal for high school or community college talents -- see the successes of Michael Smith at Cal Baptist, Cal Maritime's Daniel Radford and many others -- but let's take a look and make some guesses about which 2017 CCCAA All State honorees will be heading to that level.

First, here are last year's honorees:

North MVP – Jalen Canty – San Francisco
Gerard Andrus – Cosumnes River
Brandon Eboigbodin – Las Positas
Antonio Lewis - Sierra
Dida Pereira – Sequoias
Wykeem Randle – Chabot
Derrick Randolph – Feather River
Brett Reed – Cabrillo
BJ Shelton – Fresno City
Bobby Syvanthong – Contra Costa
Larry Wickett – Contra Costa
Honorable Mention: Deaondre Otis – Monterey Peninsula
Honorable Mention – Trevor Dunbar – San Francisco

Co-MVP – Deandre Dickson (Bakersfield) & Victor Joseph (Chaffey)
Chris Camper – Long Beach City
Izaiah Sweeney – East LA
Taylor Nelson – San Diego City
Trey Nottingham – Mt. San Jacinto
Elijah Brown – Ventura
TJ Shorts – Saddleback
Jameik Riviere – Bakersfield
Buddha Boyd – MiraCosta
Leonard Allen – San Diego City
Honorable Mention – Marquise Harris – Compton
Honorable Mention – La Marquis Thompson – Mt. San Antonio
Honorable Mention - Michael Morrissey - LA Valley

To be fair, a number of the above players were freshman and typically not yet eligible to move on but, as amazing as it seems, it looks like Jalen Canty (UC Santa Barbara) was the sole individual out of this group to nab a D-1 scholarship.

As for this season:

T.J. Shorts has signed with UC Davis, Roderick Williams with Texas El Paso plus Anthony Smith is heading to UNLV. Erik Poulsen just announced for USF.

Zach Copeland will certainly go D-1. Tyrell Alcorn too. The two bigs at Yuba, Jihad Woods and Erik Scheive, are good bets to end up at that level.
