The Lakeshow 17s Black roundup

From Brent Jameson, an assistant coach at Ohlone College and the head coach Lakeshow 17s Black:
The Lakeshow 17’s Black team had a tremendous summer season. Their overall record was 13-5 (.722). In the Best of the West tournament in Anaheim, they won their pool beating quality opponents such as Eastern Washington Elite 17s. In the second round of bracket play, Lakeshow matched up with Arizona Power. The squad featured Arizona State commit, Connor Macdougall and BYU commit, Jake Toolson. Lakeshow jumped on them from the start and ended up winning by 14.  In the elite 8, Lakeshow matched up with the super talented Cal Supreme squad. Several Pac 12 coaches were in attendance, including Lorenzo Romar. Down 12 with 8 minutes to go, Lakeshow Black battled back and took the game into overtime, but didn’t have enough to finish it off. Lakeshow ended the tournament 5-2, reaching the elite 8.

Next up was The Fab 48 tournament in Las Vegas. The team went undefeated in pool play and won the first 3 game in bracket play, advancing to the Final 4. The scoring was very balanced and every player made significant contributions. Lakeshow 17’s Black lost in the semifinals to the eventual champions, Omaha Crusaders. The team ended the tournament 6-1, beat several quality opponents including Paul George Elite and the North Dakota Phenoms.

What’s more impressive than the results is how the team did it. They played extremely unselfishly and together… qualities that aren’t often associated with summer basketball. This team really came together this year and made huge strides from spring to summer. Individually, each player worked on their game and made drastic improvements over a three month period. As a group, they showed what happens when you play team basketball. They were coachable, unselfish, and disciplined. They played for one another and enjoyed being around each other on and off the court. I had a handful of college coaches tell me that we were their favorite team to watch because the character of our kids shined through on the court. I would highly recommend each and every player on this team and I know each player will make a huge contribution at their high schools this year and their colleges in the future.
