Not to knock anyone -- just an opinionated observation: such material easily surpasses anything in the sports pages/columns in terms of informational value and readability, plus it comes in a fun, kinetic energy-infused writing style.
So I have a suggestion for the two biggest Bay Area newspapers/newsgroups:
Hire Adam Butler to be the domain master of Pac-12 basketball, hire another Butler-ite for West Coast Conference saturation, maybe even someone for the Mountain West if San Jose State University can ever become a player. Do it on a fee-for-submission basis. This would make for must-read coverage which should drop some increased coinage into the coffers both from daily hardcopy purchases and multi-platform advertising.
