What Desmond Simmons should do

Could there be a more presumptuous title?

Actually, this is just floating an idea.

Jerry (Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep) Brown was at Fresno State for four years, playing three and graduating with a degree in Communications.

He then transferred to Santa Clara to play a season and attend graduate school, specifically the one-year Entrepreneur master's program. His court numbers: 21 minutes a game, 7.8 points and a team-leading 5.5 rebounds a contest.

Now Brown will have an opportunity to play overseas somewhere should he choose to do so. But he also will be earning an advanced degree from a school in the heart of Silicon Valley and in an area loaded with Bronco graduates in high level positions.

Talk about smartly positioning oneself for the future.

May Desmond (Salesian High/Washington) Simmons, who redshirted as a freshman up in Seattle and is now finishing up his degree there, achieve the same should he choose to do so.

No, that's not suggesting the same basketball or educational route as Brown at all but at a place which will offer a solid basketball opportunity plus one that will facilitate making connections which will be helpful for his future.

Some have suggested UC Santa Barbara as a place where Simmons could play a nice role -- alongside 6-foot-7, 275 center Alan Williams -- but that's only half the equation. While it's a beautiful area, it isn't known as mecca for business opportunities.

This is another one of those fascinating where will so-and-so end up mysteries which should will be answered soon.
