WJU signs a frontcourter

William Jessup University men's basketball coach Lance Von Vogt has announced the signing of Desmond Floyd to the 2014 recruiting class.

Floyd, a 6-foot-6 forward, transfers to the Warriors from Mid-Continent University (KY). He was a redshirt for the Cougars last season. Before MCU, the Phoenix, AZ native averaged 5.8 points and 4.5 rebounds at Yavapai College.

In high school, Floyd starred at Chandler High School in Phoenix. Floyd averaged 13.8 points and 9.5 rebounds in his senior season. With his stellar play, he earned Fiesta Region second team honors and East Valley Tribune honorable mention honors. His teammates voted him the most valuable player.

Floyd stated: "I'm very blessed to be given a chance to be a part of the Warriors basketball program. I am already preparing for next season because I can't wait to play my first game as a WJU Warrior."

Coach Von Vogt stated: "I couldn't be more excited about signing Desmond Floyd. Desmond is one of those hard luck stories you hear about at no fault of his own. His 1st junior college cut their basketball program, at his next junior college the living situation was unstable and fell through and his third stop the school is in jeopardy of shutting down completely due to financial issues. Unbelievably I have known Desmond since he came out of high school and his journey connects with mine at WJU. Desmond is a high character young man who carries a strong GPA and is a game changer for us on the court with his size and athleticism. Dez brings another level of post defense and rebounding to our program. As we progress to the Golden State Athletic Conference next season we need players like Desmond to compete. We look for Desmond to make an immediate impact on our program next season."

The Warriors will open up the season at home on November 6th against Northwest Christian University.  The 2014-15 season will mark the Warriors first year in the Golden State Athletic Conference.
