From Steve Connolly:
Cal State East Bay head men's basketball coach Gus Angenal has announced that Alex Carmon, a former standout guard at Academy of Art, has tranferred to Cal State East Bay for 2014-15. The Long Beach, Calif. native was named Freshman of the Year by the PacWest Conference in 2012-13 and scored 31 points in a game against the Pioneers in 2013-14.
"I am thrilled to have Alex join the campus community at Cal State East Bay," said Argenal. "His basketball experience speaks for itself, and it's exciting to have a student-athlete with his ability joining our program. Alex can score with the best in Division II, and he also rebounds and defends at an extremely high level. He brings competitiveness and an aggressive mindset that will be great to be around every day."
Carmon played two seasons for the Urban Knights after utilizing a redshirt in 2011-12. As a freshman, he averaged 14.8 points and 4.8 rebounds per game while shooting 46.9 percent from the field. In his second season, he ranked sixth in the PacWest in scoring (17.5 points per game) and seventh in rebounding (7.1 rebounds per game).
In 50 career games at Academy of Art, the 6'3" guard averaged just under six boards per game and shot 82 percent from the free throw line. He scored in double figures 40 times, topped 20 points 16 times, and posted seven double-doubles.
Carmon also had an impressive prep career at Long Beach Polythnic, earning varsity letters all four years. He was twice named All-League and led the Jackrabbits to the 2010-11 CIF Championship as a senior.
