Hickman to the Bear Cubs

Jordan Hickman is one of those intriguing prospects -- long and lean, with the versatility to play multiple positions and the potential to be equally effective offensively and defensively. Now he's heading to defending state champion Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC) to polish his game.

Having just turned 18 last Friday, Hickman is measuring out these days at 6-foot-7 plus, with age on his side for adding even more height. A graduate of St. Patrick - St. Vincent, he enjoyed a season in which he averaged a well-rounded 11.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 2.7 steals and 1.6 blocks per contest.

After paying a visit to the SRJC campus, he liked what he saw and decided to cast his lot with Coach Craig McMillan.

As to whether he will be a one or two-season Bear Cub, Hickman doesn't yet know. "I'm not sure. My plan is just to go out and play and see if it takes one or two years." Coming out of high school, his play created interest from various levels of colleges but just not enough for him to pull the trigger.

Santa Rosa has sophomore 6-foot-6 Corey Hammell returning, with similarly-sized Dalvin Guy added to the mix inside, but its not the tallest of squads. Until school begins and the roster is set, Hickman is unsure where he will be positioned, offering "maybe a three or a stretch four."

As to the differences he has noticed in stepping up from the prep ranks to the college level, Hickman offered, " the speed is a little faster and it's more physical but still pretty similar. But everybody [at this level] is pretty good."

Regarding what he will bring to the team, Hickman said, "versatility on the court. I'm a good two-way player who will hustle and scrap."

He's looking to major in business administration.

Hickman began the summer playing AAU ball but found it different than before. It was a senior squad and "everyone was trying to get noticed" so he decided to forsake the competition and work out on his own.

Due to the propensity of McMillan and Company for turning out deadeye shooters, Hickman will be one who will be watched closely by recruiters.
