Isaiah Taylor lauded

From Eric Prisbell's article on Texas basketball:

"...Among the other players who exude that humility is [Isaiah] Taylor, a sophomore who could prove to be one of the nation's best point guards.

A native of Hayward, Calif., Taylor played high school basketball in Houston and had slipped through the recruiting cracks. After seeing him playing a tournament, Texas assistant Chris Ogden quickly phoned Lanier, who took his daughter to watch him play in San Antonio. Lanier loved his quickness and vision, in addition to how he could attack the rim and convert floaters near the basket.

Some schools perhaps shied away from Taylor because of what Lanier thought were exaggerated questions about his academics. Regardless, the Texas coaching staff was thrilled to sign him. That said, few expected him to have quite the impact he did as a freshman.

Not only was he an impact player, averaging 12.7 points and 4.0 assists, but he also exhibited a leadership presence as a newcomer in one of the nation's best leagues..."
