Pitts for the defense

From Bruce Pascoe's latest Arizona basketball report:

"...The two guys UA chose to make available for interviews today, Elliott Pitts and Kaleb Tarczewski, have both drawn praise from Miller for their defensive improvement.

Well, with one exception to how Pitts has been doing.

“Other than the 150-200 times he tackles the jump shooter, we’re extremely happy for him,” Miller said, drawing laughter. “Usually, he’ll tackle a guy once a game and put him to the line. We’re working on that. …

“We’ve learned to trust him a great deal and I think the sky’s the limit in terms of his role. The role he has now can really grow through the year. If he keeps doing what he’s doing and quits tackling the jump shooter.”

Pitts fouled Gardner-Webb’s Isaiah Ivey behind the three-point line seven minutes into Tuesday’s game and Ivey hit all three ensuing free throws to give Gardner-Webb a 13-9 lead. Pitts is averaging a foul every 9.5 minutes played..."
