Rio Americano High basketball player missing

From the Sacramento Bee:

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department is seeking help in finding a Rio Americano High School teen who has been missing since Monday.

Nicholas Sheehy, 15, was last seen Monday morning when he left his home in the 1900 block of Wingfield Way in Carmichael. He never arrived at Rio Americano, and he was reported missing to the Sheriff’s Department that evening, according to the San Juan Unified School District.

The teen is considered to be at-risk because it is not like him to leave in this way.

He is described as 6 feet 3 inches tall, 200 pounds with light brown hair and blue eyes. Sheehy was last seen wearing a tan hoodie, jeans and Nike athletic shoes.

He is believed to have cash. However, he left his cellphone behind.

Nicholas’ father, Tom Sheehy, said the family is spreading the word through a massive social media campaign.

“We are very concerned. We just don’t know what’s going on,” said Sheehy, a lobbyist with the Greenberg Traurig firm in Sacramento.

“We don’t know if it’s a runaway or an abduction.”

Sheehy said his son has never run away before but feared he may have intentionally fled because he uncharacteristically left his cellphone in his bedroom when he headed out Monday morning.

“If he ran away, he didn’t want to be found,” Sheehy said.

When he left for school Monday on his bike, Nicholas was still emotional about his team’s performance during a weekend basketball game, his father said.

“He’s a very serious boy. He wasn’t just upset. He was really upset about the basketball game.”

The family is asking anyone with information to call them at (916) 482-2082.
