New coach at Berkeley High

"Berkeley High hires" -- Nor Cal Preps

His BMHS bio:

Ralph Fields who is currently the head boy’s basketball coach at Bishop Manogue Catholic High School and former head coach at Amador Valley High School, was the assistant coach with the varsity boys basketball team at Milpitas High School with legendary coach Steve Cain. Coach Fields has been an offensive force in the Bay Area for some time now. In high school, Ralph was a starter and all-league player on a #1 ranked team in 1995. He still holds the shooting records that stands today. In college, Ralph played at Foothill Junior college where he led the league in free throw percentage and three-pointers. After two years of playing and leading the team further than any other team in school history, he transferred to Menlo College. At Menlo, Ralph led the team to winning the first championship in the school’s history while being ranked nationally for his offensive firepower. Ralph still holds numerous records at Menlo College where he finished his playing career.

When his playing career ended, he transitioned right into a coaching job at Milpitas High School. Ralph has been a director of camps all over the Bay Area (Stanford, Santa Clara, Menlo, Milpitas High, David Thompson, Raymond Townsend, Isaac Austin, Belgium International Showcase and the Golden State Warriors Camp).

In the last 14 years Coach Fields has led his teams to winning records and playoff births in 13 of those seasons.

“Let’s face it. Not everyone gets a chance to take a game- winning shot or average 20 points to a game. It is not because he/ she does not want to; it’s just because they don’t know what it takes. Determination, hard work, strategy and practice are just the beginning. Being part of our program is about laying the foundation of how to take your game and life to the next level. Using the game of basketball to work with young men and train them up to becoming strong men is my goal.”
