UC Merced hoops -- freshmen starting out big

"For such a youthful Bobcat squad the University of California, Merced men's basketball team is surely getting their fill of experience early. For the second time in as many days, the Bobcats went to overtime to determine the winner of their game. Unfortunately they were once again on the wrong side of the overtime battle at the Cal Maritime Tournament, as they fell 97-94 to William Jessup University.

At the end of regulation the Bobcats and Warriors were all squared up at 86 but in the extra time the Warriors put together a three point advantage (11-8) to seal the deal.

Sophomore Aaron Laflin and freshman Andrew (Sacramento High) Williams led the way for the Bobcats with 23 and 22 points respectively as they both shot 8-12 from the field. Also putting up double digits for the Bobcats were the impressive freshman point guard duo of Sean (Piedmont High) Rodriguez and Cole (Kennedy High) Taira, who each contributed 18 to the points column..."
