Wendell (Richmond High) McKines will be the top rebounder in the WAC this season

Here's something we prepared for another of our basketball sites.

So who is going to be CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARDS in the 2011-12 WAC season?

For background, Nevada senior Dario Hunt is the returning champion at 9.4 a game.

As for others, Vander Joaquim of Hawaii was close by at 9.1 caroms per contest.

Then it dropped to SJSU's Wil Carter and his 7.3 each time out, USU's Brady Jardine at 6.8, Kyle Barone of Idaho with 6.0 a matchup and UH's Joston Thomas and his 5.3 boards a game.

Newcomer candidates include 6-foot-9 Daquan Brown and 6-foot-8 Kevin Foster, both of Fresno State who should put up impressive rebounding numbers because they are the only bigs in the San Joaquin.

The elephant in the Western Athletic Conference living room is none other than New Mexico State's Wendell McKines, who redshirted last season.

The rundown:

* Hunt has a very good chance of repeating

* Joaquim's number should go a bit higher but we expect a much higher advance from Joston Thomas and each will ensure neither wins

* Carter should also put up a better average

* Count on Jardine to do the same as the team is Wesley-less

* Barone will also end up better but boardplay is not his strongest suit

* Brown and Foster will cancel each other out to a degree

* Lastly (but actually firstly), it's Aggie Wendell McKines who will earn the crown of TOP REBOUNDER in the WAC this season. The New Mexico State bigs will impact his average to a degree but boarding is not among their strengths -- it is for McKines.
