Trey Whitley scored 18 points and the Harbor High boys basketball team erased a sizeable first-quarter deficit to upset previously unbeaten Santa Cruz 63-56 in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League play on Friday night.

Whitley added eight rebounds and six assists to his team-high scoring total, while Ferran Margalef contributed 14 points and six blocks for the Pirates (15-3, 5-1), who trailed 20-4 at one point in the first quarter.

Kaijae Yee-Stephens scored a game-high 30 points for Santa Cruz (10-6, 5-1), the No. 1-ranked team in the Sentinel's Power Poll. Kiree Hutchings added 13 points for the Cardinals.

With his team facing off against the No. 9 team in the state, Marysville High boys basketball coach Stan Easter was just hoping his Indians could compete.

And even with a loss, Easter was happy with the final result.

Capital Christian of Sacramento, ranked ninth in California by CalHiSports, defeated Marysville 71-51 on Friday night at Lesta Joubert Gymnasium in a Golden Empire League matchup.

Danny Lewis scored 16 points to go with four steals for the Indians, and center Erik Scheive scored 12 points and grabbed three rebounds, while going against a front line that consisted of three players 6-foot-6 and taller.

Marysville is now 15-5 overall and 2-1 in GEL play. The Indians resume league action on Tuesday at Dixon.
