California Baptist men's basketball head coach Rick Croy was named one of 12 finalists for the Clarence "Big House" Gaines award, presented to top Division II coach.
In his first year at CBU, Croy guided the Lancers to a 24-4 record, the PacWest regular season title and an at-large berth in the NCAA Tournament. CBU was ranked as high as No. 7 in the nation and started the year 16-0 in their its season of full Division II eligibility.
The Clarence Gaines award is presented annually to the top NCAA Division II men's basketball coach and was named after a coaching legend. The former basketball coach retired from Winston-Salem State in 1993 with a record of 828-446, which put him as the winningest active basketball coach in NCAA history at the time.
The winner will be announced April 4 at the CollegeInsider.com Awards Banquet in Dallas at the Division I Final Four.
