Direct from a West Coach DI assistant coach to Cal Athletics Director Sandy Barbour regarding her search for the next Bears head basketball coach. It's go big (in more ways than one):
"Go with [UC Irvine Coach] Russell Turner. He already turned around the Anteater program. Look at his roster: he can recruit bigs and he's 6-foot-7 so he's a big coaching bigs. Look at most of the other Pac-12 coaches -- they are point guards. This would give Cal a leg up with recruits. He has players from England, Greece, Senegal and Turkey so there are connections abroad and he has proven he can land foreign prospects. He has NBA experience with the Golden State Warriors under Don Nelson and that's attractive to recruits and he knows the Pac-12 from working with Mike Montgomery at Stanford."
The ball is in Barbour's court.
