Farris heading to state champions

Parker Farris is transferring from Humboldt State University to Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC) for his sophomore season.

The 6-foot-4 McKinleyville High graduate averaged 9.4 points and 3.1 rebounds a contest in 2013-14, shooting 37%, 33% and 81% respectively. 77% of his shooting attempts were from beyond the arc playing the two as a Lumberjack.

While in Arcata, Parker explained, "I had good coaches and learned a lot. In the first half of the year, I didn't get what they wanted me to do with things like certain rotations and footwork but then it kicked in."

Farris was familiar with SRJC basketball from his days with the Nor Cal Pharaohs when he would play against some of the members of the Sacramento State and Pacific squads who came from the Bear Cub basketball program. Coach Craig McMillan's program definitely interested him then but Farris chose to go north when Humboldt State offered.

His selection of SRJC was based on "it being a great program, a great academic school and coming off a state championship. It's very team-oriented and the coaching staff takes [their roles] it serious. The players [that move on] play and see minutes."

Word has definitely gotten around about the next-level success of backcourters like Sama Taku, Kevin Aronis, Bobby Sharp and most recently Alec Kobre.

Farris will be joining forces with returning guard Matthew Hayes, a First Team All State honoree, so look for continued sharp-shooting from the Bear Cubs.
