Slade to the Seawolves

College of The Redwoods' James Slade has made his call and decided to become a member of the Sonoma State Seawolves, members of the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

Coming off a sophomore season in which he averaged 16.1 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.7 assists per contest while shooting 56%, 49% and 67% respectively, he was an imtegral and well-rounded part of the 16-10 overall record achieved by the Corsairs.

So why Sonoma State?

The 6-foot-3 Ferndale High graduate wanted to experience life on his own, plus he liked the [Sonoma County] area and "I felt comfortable with the guys on the team and it was close enough to home but far enough away."

Plus, "I'll also have the chance to play baseball" as Slade also pitches.

What will fans of the Seawolves witness from him?

"Hard work, heart and giving my best."

He also offered, "I am confident in my shot, I like to pass, I see the floor well and my coaches tell me I made our other players better." Slade played the point growing up and continues to put that experience to good use.

Positioned as a four with the Corsairs, Slade explained that allowed him "to go by big guys and post up smaller ones."

At Sonoma State, he'll be majoring in mathematics as he envisions a future of teaching and coaching in high school.

Slade would also like to thank all his friends, family, and fans in Humboldt who have supported him, but mostly his Mom and Dad -- "I wouldn't be where I am without my parents."
