In the NBA D-League draft, the Santa Cruz Warriors nabbed 6-foot-9 Marcus Bell out of Cal State Stanislaus/Enochs High in the fifth round.
He recently participated in a Warriors try-out camp in Oakland:
"Also impressing at the tryouts was Marcus Bell. A CSU Stanislaus alum, Bell, 23, is chasing the dream as well.
“This is an opportunity I can take so I’m going to go after it,” Bell said, explaining why he signed up for the tryouts in Oakland. “I’m just going to take it to my advantage.”
Bell thrived during his senior year at Stanislaus, averaging over 17 points per game while shooting over 55% from the field. He also crashed the boards too, leading the California Collegiate Athletic Association in rebounds (10.5 per game).
Bell understood the team isn’t looking for shooters, and is willing to do whatever it takes to make a spot on the Santa Cruz roster.
“They said they needed role players so I’m going to come out here and do what they ask,” Bell said.
This isn’t the first set of tryouts Bell has attended this preseason, noting he attended a pair of Los Angeles D-Fenders tryouts as well.
Should Bell make the Santa Cruz Warriors training camp roster, it wouldn’t be the first time he’s teamed up with [Kiwi] Gardner.
“We played on an AAU team together in high school,” Bell said. “It was fun seeing him again. I’m glad he’s doing good.”
