Wright lauded by Pac-12 coaches

From Doug Haller:

Who's the best basketball player in this season's Pac-12?

That depends on how you define such a player, so I made it simple. I asked nine Pac-12 coaches during the conference's media day in San Francisco one question: If you had to pick one Pac-12 player to start a team, who would it be?

...The results: Utah's Delon Wright led the way with five votes...Coaches could not vote for their own players.

"In this game, we often talk about on the offensive end the ability to see the game a play ahead of time – very rarely do you find a player at this level on the defensive end that has the ability to see the game a play ahead of time, also," one coach said of Wright. "You put those two together, that's why his stats are so impressive, that's why he has an impact on the game, just because he has the total package when you talk about offense and defense."

In his first year out of junior college, Wright – an NBA prospect at 6 feet 5 -- last season averaged 15.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 2.5 steals. He also shot 62.3 percent from 2-point range (56.1 percent overall), best of any rotation player in the Pac-12.

"I said before Delon played a game that I think he's a classic definition of a stat-sheet stuffer, where he steals, blocks shots, assists (and) obviously, the ability to score," Utah coach Larry Krystkowiak said. "I think as we move forward, some of the growth that Delon is showing has been the most important. He's gotten stronger and put on weight. Shooting ability, I have no question in my mind that he's going to be more consistent from the perimeter."
