A look at Cameron Oliver

Here's an early Cameron Oliver scouting report courtesy of Josh Riddell/Draft Express, dated 8/07/2016. To subscribe to his NBA Draft Analysis, go here.

+++++++

"Cameron Oliver, Nevada: 20 year old sophomore who had a strong freshman year and blew up at Adidas Nations. 6'8" PF with a great physical profile - long, high level all-around athlete, strong, plays above the rim. Not overly quick but enough speed for his size - 225 pound strong frame. #59 on my pre-season big board.

Inside-out threat offensively. 31% on 2.2 three point attempts per 40, 52.8% on 11 two point attempts per 40. Needs to improve his hands - looks for alley-oops but can't always convert - fumbles pass or misjudges flight of ball. Bit of a chucker - 25% shot rate and just a 55% true shooting percentage. Heavily relied upon at Nevada but shot selection wasn't always the greatest. Looking for his own shot - not a big passer even in flow of offense - 1.1 assists to 3.8 turnovers per 40. Will stop the ball at the top of the key and look for his own offense, slowing down the offense.

Comfortable shooter but needs to improve mechanically to be more consistent long-term. Isn't always on balance which can affect trajectory of his shot, kicks his legs out. Likes to short roll to the mid-range for a catch and shoot mid-range jump shot. Tries to do a little too much from the mid-range. Not a strong driver but likes to put the ball on the ground and try to get to the rim. Loses dribble, doesn't have a plan on drives, drives into traffic. Shuffles his feet with a defender right in front of him. Could become a straight line attacker down the line, add in a crossover but not there yet.

Can score at the rim. Likes to dunk offensive rebounds (3.7 offensive rebounds per 40). Gets in trouble when he brings offensive rebounds down as he fades away on his second chance shots. Doesn't always go straight into defender - only 4.6 FTA per 40. Has a wide body, needs to use it to draw fouls and finish through contact. Can get off the ground for dunks in transition, off cuts, etc. Likes to look for lobs out of PNR when he rolls to the rim. Can't always make a catch from 8 feet and get to the basket with one or zero dribbles. Isn't a great post up threat yet - lacks advanced footwork. Uses his strength well against smaller players..."
